It is one of the oldest cities in Morocco, which lies 86 km east of Agadir, surrounded by two mountain ranges the High Atlas to the north and the Anti-Atlas to the east.
Taroudannt (also called Taroudant) is sometimes referred to as 'little Marrakech', but that description doesn't do the center of commerce in the Souss Valley justice. Hidden by magnificent walls of red mud, and with the snow-capped peaks of the High Atlas beckoning beyond, the souks and squares of Taroudannt have a wholesome sprinkling of Maghreb mystique. However, it is also a practical place, a town where the Berbers trade the product of the rich and fertile plain of Oued Souss.
There are no must-see sites. Instead, the medina is a place to stroll and linger. The two souqs are well worth a visit, more laid back than Marrakech but with an atmosphere of activity that is absent in Agadir. With the little explored Western Atlas, the Anti Atlas and the coast close by, the town is a good base for trekking and activities. Just 65 km inside Al-Massira airport, it is a more atmospheric staging post to/from the airport than Agadir.
